The DirecWay DW1000, in conjunction with a Personal Earth Station (PES), is an enterprise oriented connectivity solution providing two-way VSAT satellite broadband communications. DirecWay DW1000 is designed to provide multimegabit outbound speeds to remote locations as an overlay approach to the existing terrestrial frame relay network. The DirecWay DW1000 features a receive-only channel rate which is scalable from 1 Mbps up to 45 Mbps.
DirecWay DW1000 remote customer earth station hardware features standalone unit for data transfers. With the satellite as a broadcast medium, DirecWay DW1000 offers cost-effective satellite connectivity solution for Multicast applications, such as video and high-speed data broadcasts. DirecWay DW1000 can simultaneously support multiple MPEG real-time video streams and multiple dedicated data channels by utilizing a shared digital channel, scalable up to 45 Mbps. Concurrently while video is being broadcast, high-bandwidth channels with greater than T1 speeds can be assigned for the TCP/IP data sessions on the fly.
Additionally, the DirecWay DW1000 supports an optional internal HDD unit with intelligent caching software (like proxy) that stores any HTTP content locally. This enables to move content to the edge of the network, closer to the end user and experience a faster service. Intelligent caching brings technology used extensively by ISP (i.e. transparent Squid) and enterprise networks. The DW1000 caching system also uses an advanced algorithm to overcome inherent Internet Protocol limitations and deliver entire web pages to the subscriber, when not already stored in the cache.
The DirecWay DW1000 terminal is composed of an indoor unit called IDU that connects via an L-band interface to a PES (Personal Earth Station) IDU Rx-only dish to receive broadband content, with a serial or Ethernet interface to either a PES IDU or a Frame Relay network for the assymmetric return path. The ODU electronics consists of an antenna, IFL cable connected to the PES unit, or an antenna and LNB for one-way Rx-only network.
It is possible to completely monitor and control the DirecWay DW1000 terminal by an SNMP manager at the earth station. All software OS and configuration parameters are downloaded by the hub to the terminal over the satellite circuit. SNMP manager also controls status and alarms, reported automatically.
